No Quick End in Sight To Jakarta Blackouts

Ailing state electricity utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) conceded on Thursday that it was in “a difficult situation” with rolling blackouts expected to continue to plague parts of Greater Jakarta for at least another month.

PLN has been struggling to meet the energy-hungry capital’s demand for power since a fire at its central facility in Cawang, East Jakarta, in September. Since Monday, large swathes of the city have been without electricity after a power station in Muara Karang, North Jakarta, overloaded. That failure, in turn, was caused by a breakdown in one of the transformers in a station in Gandul, Depok.

“With Cawang being inoperable, we’ve been channeling electricity from stations in Depok, Bekasi and Tanjung Priok,” said Purnomo Willy, general manager of distribution for PLN.

“However, the Tanjung Priok station has been undergoing scheduled maintenance since mid-October,” he said. “We’re afraid that the blackouts in Jakarta and Tangerang will continue until the end of November.”

Blackouts on Tuesday and Wednesday mainly affected North Jakarta, but other parts of the city were left without power for as long as five hours.

Ratna Budiarti, a housewife from Jati Padang near Kemang, South Jakarta, told the Jakarta Globe that her infant couldn’t sleep in the stifling heat, making for an extremely long and unpleasant five hours alone in her home during the blackout.

PLN had failed to inform the public about the blackouts, how long they would last or if they were expected to continue.

WIlly said that combined with an increase in demand in recent months, transformers and stations in Jakarta were prone to overloading, which could lead to further blackouts.

“I hope that the people of Jakarta will use less electricity, because we are in a difficult situation,” he said.

Willy said both Jakarta and Tangerang faced power shortages of between 16 to 70 megawatts for at least another three weeks.

A 6.4 magnitude quake struck southwest of Ujung Kulon in Indonesia's West Java province at 4:52, causing buildings to shake some 300 kilometers away in Jakarta.

The epicenter was 10 kilometers deep, said Suharjono, head of the seismology desk at the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

There is no infomation yet on damage. The quake did not pose a tsunami risk.

The tremor was felt at between II and IV MMI in Jakarta. This level is considered to pose a relatively low threat to buildings and other structures, said Suharjono.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (CNN) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 struck Indonesia on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was recorded about 33 miles from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra, which is home to more than 800,000 people.

Several buildings were damaged, Metro TV reported. People were seen running out of their homes and toward the hills.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a tsunami watch for Indonesia, India, Thailand and Malaysia.

NOAA could not immediately say whether the quake generated a tsunami, but such advisories are issued when a quake has the potential to cause one.

On Tuesday, a magnitude 8.0 quake -triggered tsunami killed at least 84 in the Samoan islands and Tonga.

What Happened in the Last Week

I'm gonna write a bit about what's HOT here in Indonesia (other than the weather).

First, rest in peace, Mbah Surip. I don't know you nor I like your music much but you're important to the music industry in this country. (Don't know who he is, check this video. I'll be honest, the first time I saw the video was when I searched for it for this post. *facepalm*)

Second, about two days later (I think), W.S. Rendra, another important and influential person, died. He's a poet (or something like that. Not sure what the correct English word is.). His place was used by Mbah Surip, if people wants to 'see' him, before he was buried. (A bit creepy me thinks. He loaned the place then followed the loaner...)

Third...this one gonna be a bit long...Noordin M. Top, the most wanted terrorist in Indonesia (at least) was killed during a raid this morning. As much as I want to believe it (man, I hope it's for REAL), but some conditions mentioned in the news made me suspicious. One, is it really THIS easy to 'capture' this most wanted guy, or maybe because that it's been so long for him to be captured, it feels a little anticlimax that he was killed at his hiding place while he was hiding in the toilet? Two, I can't think of a bad guys/criminals who would identify themselves when the cops yelled and asked, "Who's in there?" by saying, "I'm Noordin M. Top.". If I was a criminal, I'd stay quiet, made them think the place was empty, or I'm gonna say anybody's name so I wouldn't get killed, and not my real name, the name that the cops been chasing. That's suicide (which is somewhat true because the guy, Mr. Noordin M. Top, was killed by the squad).

Just my opinion...

In the end, RIP Mbah Surip and WS Rendra.

And I really hope that the guy the cops killed is really the terrorist. *fingers-crossed*

Lagi kepikiran aja nih...

Klo ga salah kan sinetron 'Manohara' dah mulai tuh. Tadi pagi sebelom gw berangkat ke kampus, gw denger di acara TV yg lagi ditonton ma nyokap gw, klo tu sinetron udah ep 4. Nah, yg bikin gw gatel bikin ni post tu bukan soal sinetronnya. Tapi 'latar belakang'-nya.

Maksud gw...jadi mo terkenal n dapet duit banyak tu sebenernya gampang ya? Lo balik lah ke Indo dari somewhere, bikin scene gede2an soal something, klo perlu yg dramatis banget. Ntar lo kan dapet perhatian tuh, minimal dari media massa. Klo udah media yg maen kan masalah kecil bisa gwede tu. Udah deh, instant fame and success. Orang2 mah klo dapet kasus domestic violence, alias KDRT, ga mao kondisi dirinya tu kesebar kemana2. Lapor polisi oke lah. Malah harus itu klo lapor polisi. Tapi...emangnya media perlu ikutan ya??? Gw sih ogah. Bikin malu. Narik simpati sih iya, tapi tetep bikin malu.

Bagian entertaiment juga aneh. Udah keabisan ide cerita apa ya, ampe kejadian macem gitu perlu dibikin sinetron? Plus, ga ada tema laen apa ya yg bisa dibuat jadi sinetron? Kok keknya temanya kekerasan mulu. Well, mungkin si 'kekerasan' ga jadi main plot, but still...pasti ada gitu di dalemnya. *sighs*

Gw dukung kampanye-nya stupidthinker n dmwundip deh.

...ada yg mulai mikirin soal pesawat2 n helikopter militer. Kayanya belakangan banyak banget kecelakaan pesawat/helikopter militer. Buat yg mungkin ga meratiin, isinya pesawat/helikopter tu MANUSIA, bukan BARANG. Kecuali pada bisa bikin pesawat tanpa awak buat ngirim barang, tiap pesawat masih bakalan ada isi manusianya. So, diperatiin dong. Nyawa manusia tu berharga lho...

...jangan sembarangan mutusin sesuatu tu haram. Facebook katanya haram? Kenapa? Gara2 ada game poker? Emangnya Facebook isinya poker doang?! Golput haram? Kenapa? Memilih tu hak seseorang. Memilih untuk TIDAK MEMILIH ada hak seseorang. Kok haram? Mo ngerenggut hak? Kok enak banget?!

...jangan mentang2 ngerasa lebih tinggi, terus ga mau dikritik. Orang boleh kan ngeluarin pendapat dan opini, dan ga selalu bersifat positif. Nyaman bener ni dunia kalo semua orang bisa saling setuju n ga ada reaksi negatif.

...orang2 pada open-minded dikit. Tiap orang kepribadiannya beda, n ga selalu bisa diterima di lingkungan. So? Jadi ceritanya seseorang kudu berubah cuma biar lingkungan seneng? Kasian dong ama orang yg bersangkutan, hidupnya jadi sebuah kebohongan, karena dia ga bisa jadi dirinya sendiri.

What's up with the cliffhangers, guys??? Trying to kill me?! :P

Three of the series that I watch already met the finale (that I finally able to watch after struggling with the download speed). And what I want after watching those three finales is throwing...anything to the monitor (which I'm glad I didn't do, or else I'm gonna need a new laptop).

Bones...
The finale was just plain cruel. The ep was about Booth and Brennan being married o.O and they owned a nightclub and all the lab staffs were employees at the club. But apparently those only Booth's dream when he was in a four-days coma, according to Brennan. And before they rolled the credits, the first thing Booth said when he and Brennan were face-to-face was, "Who are you?" O_O

CSI: NY...
Well, this one, the ep itself was already cruel. Flack is one of my favorite characters...and they killed Angell?! I love Don/Jess. Come on! *cries* Though I love the bad guys' abandoned Hummer as well, but they rolled the credits when someone was shooting at the bar where the team were gathered to talk about Angell. O_O All of the team is in that bar, including Adam and Syd. *bites nails*

This one isn't as cruel as the other two, thank God for that. :P But, still, I wanna know what Amita's answer is. Oh, and I so LOVE Don in this ep, both as an agent and as a big brother. Love the hug with Charlie (I think I remember them talking about they're not a group hug kind of people... :P). Ian/Nikki ♥ Liz's comment about Ian having his eyes on Colby, and Colby's, and Larry's, reaction... LOL. I wish Robin is present, though Don mentioned about her. Just wishing, though I have no idea what would be her role if she's present. *grins* Just wanna see some Don/Robin. :P

On to my weekend, so far. :D Still annoyed because for some reason my download speed isn't as fast as it usually do. I have no idea why. I usually use megaupload to download the eps, and right now I gotta wait until someone was nice enough to upload the ep to a local server so I could get some speed. *sighs*

But...when I went out to the mall last night, there were cars being showed. There were BMW 5-series and 3-series, Nissan (no idea what type they're showing because I didn't check), and...my favorite, Ford Escape ♥. It's the new 4x2 2.3L model (I think that's how to write the type *shrugs*). It's black and looked so awesome. Really. Looked better from looking at the website. :P

Okay, that closes my Saturday. Now is early in Sunday, and I'm waiting for Flashpoint download to finish... *sighs*

Numb3rs and Chelsea

Now I'm no longer stressed from midterms (and other things) and finally online using my computer, I figured, why not a little update. :P

First, I'd like to thank all of you who voted for me at the numb3rs_awards. I won one, Best Slash Icon Don/Colby, which is a bit ironic, because I don't really into slash. Although lately, I've been reading slash here and there, and it's Don/Colby. *shrugs* *grins*

So, again, thank you. :)

Second, Chelsea didn't go through to the final of Champions League. Crap! It's just two minutes from the final whistle and they just HAD to let Barca scored. Not blaming them. No. But...HEY REF!!! WTF?! I think the guys earned themselves a couple of penalties that you DENIED?! Gee...

It's a draw and Barca through on away goals rules. Sucks!

That's it for me, for now. I'm still feeling a bit dizzy (and a bit light-headed), so I think I'll go back to bed...

First of all, I'm still alive. *grins* I read entries through my cell, but it's kinda difficult with long entries, so I'm gonna do my best to catch up. :)

Second of all, I watched Fast and Furious, and I want to watch it again. *grinning like an idiot*

But...I wanna say my opinions on two of my favorite TV shows, before I say anything about street racing, and Brian O'Conner. :P

Flashpoint-wise...
~ Where the hell are Sam and Jules??? After talking about she gonna come back to the team on "Aisle 13" now all of a sudden, there's no mention of her, and Sam's whereabouts. Wha...???
~ And it's just me, or I have a feeling that "The Perfect Family" should be aired after "Clean Hands". I mean, I don't remember them really mentioning about Donna shooting someone on "Aisle 13", but they're making a big deal about it on the last ep. @_@ That's just my opinion. I need to rewatch the eps to be sure.
~ I feel sorry for the guy. Mom dead when he was 4, and Dad suicide a year later? In front of him, no less. So...I just gotta ask. He wants his boy back so he could repeat the history, or he really wants him for real?? (stupid question, I think...)
~ Oh, I don't think Donna gonna stay. :P

~ Where's Colby? He's missing, again. Still on that fishing trip? :P

Onto Fast and Furious...

I am so glad I watched this movie. One thing that I really take from this movie, other than the awesomeness of Dominic Toretto and Brian O'Conner, is loyalty and trust are above everything. Brian putting everything on risk to break Dom out, that's WOW. They got separated for like five years? and still trusting each other. Dom helping Brian catching Braga, and Brian helping Dom gets his revenge. AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.

Oh, I got the feeling that this movie happens before Tokyo Drift, timeline-wise. I mean, Han is still alive and talking about going to Tokyo? And Dom showing up in Tokyo at the end of the third movie. Well, that means Brian successfully broke Dom out of the prison bus. Wonder what happened to him...

Anyway, I read somewhere, that there'll Fast and Furious 5!

In a match where two of my favorite football teams go head-to-head...
The end result of Chelsea against Juventus on a Champions League match...

CHELSEA WON!!!

Phew...
I honestly have no idea what to feel. Sad, because Juventus lost, or happy, because Chelsea won.

But, man, what a match. I missed the first half, but the second-half... Luckily, with the time difference, the second-half was pretty in early on the morning, around 4AM, so most of the people at home were already awake. So I didn't need to worry about waking anybody up with my screaming. :P

Okay, I guess I'm more HAPPY than I am sad. *grins*

And then, later in the day, blues_supporter posted the pics from the match. I squeed so loud when I realized that Gianluigi Buffon, the Juventus Goalkeeper, was apparently switching jersey with John Terry, the Chelsea defender/captain. Man, those two are my favorite players!!

Latest Numb3rs Ep

So I finally watched First Law, and while waiting for Flashpoint to finish downloading, I wanna say my opinions about this episode. This is probably my first post on commenting an ep on my journal (maybe... I don't really remember :P) but this ep is just, I don't know, really get to me. Maybe because it's AI and it's my sub-concentration in college. I don't know. *shrugs*

But, first of all, before I'm saying anything about the episode... What the hell with 'It's not how you play the game. It's whether you win or lose.'?!! Seriously?! *shakes head* Maybe, for me, it's about the game and having fun, because it's no use playing the game, when you're not having fun. And if what one care about is winning or losing, the fun will slowly fades away. It's gonna get boring soon.

But that's just me... *grins* No offence intended to anyone...

On to the ep. At first, I think Bailey is really cool. It's creepy (I'm not gonna say 'she' for the computer), but it's still cool. Although I don't think it's okay to make a computer that can think. Not that advanced anyway. We want the computers to help, not taking over. Thank you. *nods*

But...when Amita and Charlie said Bailey is a fraud, and it was programmed so it would look like that it's a very advanced AI, surprisingly, I'm pissed. I don't like it being too advanced but I'm pissed to know that it's a fake? o_O

I'm losing my mind. *headdesk* ~~Back onto trying to find out how to represent a fingerprint with vector~~.

On to the character...

I HATE Jane whoever-her-last-name-is! She's the second character in Numb3rs that really annoyed me (the other one is Tom something, I think that's his name, the guy from Protest, nicknamed Cisco). Yay! for Don and Larry for defending Charlie, and keep her away from him. I have to remember to keep all sharp objects away when I rewatch this ep or else my laptop won't survive the day.

All in all, I like the ep. I can say it's one of my favs. *grins*

But...where's Nikki? *is confused* And Robin???

My fave lines on the ep... It's when Charlie told Colby to just pull out the cable, and Colby replied, "Really?"

Oh, and thanks stupidthinker for the header, and the advice. ;)

Also, stupidthinker and I made a NUMB3RS Fansite, in Indonesian. Here's the address, http://numb3rsfreak.us. I'd love to know what you think on the layout. I'm pretty new on website design so... *shrugs* *grins* I'm not gonna ask about your opinion on the contents, since most of you probably won't be able to understand it. :D It's still in progress so most of the page still has "Coming Soon" tag. :P

Oh, I almost forgot. One video at weirdkid624 is now deleted. The entry is still there but the video is no longer available (on youtube). Apparently the owner of the song, Linkin Park, don't want their song to be used, so youtube disabled the video. Well, at least that's what it said on my youtube inbox. I haven't got the chance to change the song and re-post the video. So...sorry...
